Tata Zest – Hands On Experience by the roads of scenic goa

Top 50 Bloggers across India were invited to the land of sun, fun and party,”GOA” who were all excited and pepped up to #ZestUpYourlife by having a hands-on experience riding the diesel and petrol variant of the Tata Zest along the scenic roads of Goa.Already an proud owner of Tata Nano, i was all zested up to burn some rubber and torque up the car with such impressive specs. The Day 2 of the bloggers meet at Zuri- White Sands Resorts & Casino had 20 blue and gray machines all set to zip zap zoom on the roads of goa.The Rain gods also played a good host by keeping the weather pleasant and not raining during the drive just like our kind host “Blogadda” & “Tata Motors”.

Tata Zest as we all know was launched at The Auto Expo 2014 in Delhi. The sub-compact sedan is first of its kind car in this segment which offers first-in-segment features such as a turbocharged petrol engine and a diesel powered AMT(automated manual transmission). Tata Zest does have a challenge in front of them with competitors such as Honda Amaze,Maruti Dzire and Hyundai Xcent and by the looks for it,Tata Zest looks like a very formidable player. As said earlier,Lot of time had gone into it, especially with the new Engine “Revotron” which is a game changer and trust me, Experience it to believe it.

50 Bloggers were divided into groups of 3 members to experience the ride in full zeal and zest.As i got the diesel version to do a spin off.As we got into the car, First thing i noticed was the car was decked with Go-Pro Cameras and some hi-tech gadgets to make the experience memorable.24 kms each lap for diesel car and 24 kms for petrol car.

<a href=”https://www.flickr.com/photos/nivedithan/15136405819″ title=”DSC_0001 by nivedith g, on Flickr”><img src=”https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3879/15136405819_fdb16769d8_z.jpg” width=”640″ height=”532″ alt=”DSC_0001″></a>

The engineers have done a fantastic job with every design detail on the car.The steering had a total new feel compared to the existing sedan cars especially the comfort level of steering and driving the car.The Car interiors had dual-tone colour features that lights up the car and gives a very chic look to the car.

The car has a all new-age infotainment system by Harman Kardon which is first of its kind and the top end car is loaded with 5-inch touch screen panel that controls the audio system and climatic control AC.Though the voice recognition of the car wasn’t very easy to sync up and operate as each syntax had to be exactly how the system has been programmed to comprehend them, else the system did not recognize it.But the touch screen was pretty easy to use and did give the car a different feel. The diesel powered Zest I was driving had manual controls and the quality of the dashboard was good and certainly better than the previous tata cars.

<a href=”https://www.flickr.com/photos/nivedithan/15300108626″ title=”DSC_0041 by nivedith g, on Flickr”><img src=”https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3886/15300108626_04df9d11ef_z.jpg” width=”640″ height=”426″ alt=”DSC_0041″></a>

As we were zipping through the roads of Goa,The performance of the car came into play. The diesel that I drove first had an automated-manual transmission. The handling and the drive was very smooth and i must say, it was as smooth as knife cutting though butter and even a person who doesn’t know to drive car and try out the AMT and would handle it with ease.

<a href=”https://www.flickr.com/photos/nivedithan/15300097846″ title=”DSC_0444 by nivedith g, on Flickr”><img src=”https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5580/15300097846_3df72ff4a1_z.jpg” width=”640″ height=”427″ alt=”DSC_0444″></a>

The diesel engine- 1.2 litres is a first of its kind that produces 89bhp and 200Nm.But i felt the power was missing in AMT compared to Petrol version and the 1.2-litre ‘Revotron’ petrol engine is designed to deliver superior performance, power, torque and mileage. There are three driving modes – City, Economy and Sports. The “City” mode is as per the name goes, its perfect for city rides and the “Economy” is supposed to make use of the maximum efficiency of the fuel during rides and my favorite,The ‘Sports’ mode lives up to the name of Zest, gives you a peppy ride and also the throttle you expect it to unleash when you push the button. The gearshift and the braking and all are in synchronous and pretty much in place for a perfect ride.

As we completed our turns of trying out the Zest in all conditions of city, highway, lean traffic et all.We just realized one thing. We were already attached to the car that we didn’t want to part it and just wanted to continue with the Zestful experience.
