ICICI Academy for skills trains over 5000 underprivileged youth in jaipur.ICICI Foundation will provide vocational training to over 1 Lakh youth by FY17.ICICI Academy launches “GiftALiveliHood”, A Nation-wide Referral programme.
ICICI Academy for skills is an institute that was setup by the ICICI Foundation for inclusive growth to provide vocational training to the youth from economically weaker sections to help them earn a sustainable livelihood.
I had an opportunity to visit the ICICI Academy in Jaipur which is the first centre in India that was setup in October 2013.This is part of the CSR initiative by ICICI Bank. The Academy has 22 centres currently across India with 10 exclusively for women Training. The ICICI Academy in Jaipur was located on 3rd, 4th and 5th floor of the ICICI building.
As i entered the ICICI Academy,My first reactions was like i entered an MNC with State of the Art Technology infrastructure.I was well greeted by the Centre Head and the faculty of ICICI Academy-Jaipur.The Team was very enthusiastic and full of life and zest. The Team was courteous enough to give me a walk-through thru ICICI Academy. The Academy provides relevant and practical training to the underprivileged youth in 13 disciplines. They are: Selling skills, Office Administration, Web Designing, Electrical & Home Appliance repair, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning repair, Central Air Conditioning, Pumps & Motor repair, Retail Café Operations, Paint Application Techniques, Tractor Mechanic, Lab Assistant at Diagnostic centres, Two & Three Wheeler Service Technician and Retail Sales. The students are also trained in specific life skills such as Communication, Finance, Etiquette and Grooming which help them adapt to an organised work environment. In addition to training, ICICI Academy provides uniforms, meals and all relevant course material to the trainees.
As i entered the class in progress and started interacting with the students who were well groomed with sufficient amenities provided to them to help them study and excel as well.During my interaction with the students, lots of overwhelming experiences and stories of students came up where most of the students are from deep interior villages that they didn’t get a chance to live a life or learn the skills to work. The ICICI Academy team has done such wonderful job in hunting for such students and recommending them to visit the centre and enroll the 3 months course based on their interest and make them as Trained professional to be ready to work with hands-on industry type experience.
It is a commendable job by ICICI to provide livelihood to people who would want to earn but dont know how nor have the experience or exposure to do the same and ICICI Academy for Skills makes them learn a skill and make a living out of it.
These students have been well taken care with all round development and not only restricting to training but also personality development, Inter personal skills and some of the courses are residential as well where the students have start of the art infrastructure hostels, Recreation room, Library to keep them updated with current affairs and have the right exposure to be industry ready.
ICICI Academy also provides them healthy and fresh food throughout the day to keep them hale and healthy and help them excel the skill without any hindrance. The Kitchen looks like a star hotel kitchen providing the necessary nutritional foods.
The duration of the training is 3 months. One has to pass at least standard VIII for the residential courses, standard X for the day ones and be between 18 and 30 years of age to become eligible for these courses.
The best part of the program is that No fees or any sort of amount is not collected by the students.
The Centre head gave me some more insights on the Jaipur centre which is the first centre that was launched in the country and remains among the flagship centres of the academy. It has tied up with various industry leaders such as Schneider Electric India Foundation (for electrical & home appliance repair), Blue Star Ltd. (for refrigeration & AC repair), Crompton Greaves Ltd.(for pumps & motor repair), Tally Solutions Pvt. Ltd. (for office administration) and Thyrocare Technologies Ltd. (for lab assistant at diagnostic centres) who as ‘Knowledge Partners’ help in co-creating the course curricula and content, setting up practical training laboratories and training of the trainers.
Since its launch in October 2013, the Jaipur academy has trained 5075 underprivileged youth till Feb 2016.The centre currently offers both residential and day courses to 985 students in six disciplines. The residential courses include Electrical & Home Appliance repair, Refrigeration & AC repair, Pumps & Motor repair, while the day ones comprise Lab Assistant at Diagnostic Centres, Office Administration and Selling Skills.
ICICI Academy Jaipur has tied up with industry partners to provide employment opportunities to the trained youth. Trainees who have completed the course have been offered 100% placement with companies like Genius Electronics (TPA of Uttam Electronics), Minda Furukawa, Ujala Pumps Pvt. Ltd., Angel Broking Pvt. Ltd., ANG India Limited, Envision Jaipur Sales, Shri Ram Transport Finance Company Ltd, Janalakshmi Financial Services, Anand Rathi Share and Brokers Ltd., Reliance Digital Express.
The Initiative like this surely needs a applaud from us to help train the future of india with a skill.
ICICI Bank has also launched a referral programme, ‘GiftALivelihood’, for sourcing deserving candidates for ICICI Academy. Under this programme, people can refer deserving candidates to ICICI Academy through www.giftalivelihood.com and help them get trained so that they can earn a sustainable livelihood and lead a life of dignity. Post referral, ICICI Academy will enroll all eligible and suitable candidates for its courses, which are provided free. At the end of the training, ICICI Academy will also facilitate employment.
To conclude my experience, it was a convocation day for 300+ students graduating from ICICI Academy for skills and was asked to hand over certificates to the students and i could see the distinct confidence on their faces that lights up our soul and faculty of ICICI Academy Jaipur as well.
I would urge to make a difference by atleast referring deserving candidates to ICICI Academy through www.giftalivelihood.com #GiftALivelihood #ICICIAcademyForSkills
