Alibaba group firm UCWeb on Monday launched UC News in India as part of the new product strategy in India owing to building content as the game changer in India.
UC News is a platform that brings together news content from over 20 featured channels, including news, cricket, technology, entertainment, movies, and lifestyle.
Alibaba Mobile Business Group General Manager UCWeb Kenny launched the much famed UC News in India which has been in china in a similar format and outlook and it will be expanded to Indonesia and other countries. The app is available to download for Android via Google Play.
“UC News tracks and matches the trending keywords on Facebook and Twitter and decides on the trending topics before recommending them to the user.Digital content consumption is on the rise and the challenge is how can we customise, curate and present diverse content to users.
UC News is powered by big data technology and caters to trending and curated news content covering all popular categories with over 20 featured channels. It tracks trending keywords on Facebook and Twitter to recommend them to the users, also letting them customize content subscription.
Going forward, UC News will be looking forward to partner with self-publishers like bloggers and columnists.
The company, which is witnessing a fast pace of adoption of its Internet browser, is also focusing on local languages and further strengthening its technology platform to work with India’s low broadband network.
“India is a very important market for us. Globally, it already has the second largest Internet user base and for us too, it is the largest user base outside of China. It is about 20 per cent of our 400 million global user base,”
UC Browser is focusing on key aspects like content and technology to drive usage in India.
UCWeb said UC Browser has over 58 percent market share as of May 2016.The company also announced an update for its popular UC Browser, which claims to have 80 million active users in the country,Also, on an average, each UC Browser’s Indian user consumes six pieces of news/ feeds per day.
UC Browser reportedly has 400 million monthly active users globally. It is the largest mobile browser in Asia and the second largest globally.
