Art Bengaluru is South India’s leading contemporary Art Festival and 2016 marks its 7th year since inception.Known as one of the most reputed Art Festivals in India, has been created to showcase a wide spectrum of art forms and provide a platform for artists to exhibit their works. The festival, at its core, comprises of four distinct verticals – Art, Performance Art, Workshops and Speaking Sessions and a new vertical this year is Cinema.
Bengaluru has always been open to Art and creative events and thats one of the main reason for Art Bengaluru and the theme this year is based oncurrent events and positive changes that have taken place in the country, thereby making India emerge as a major player on the Global stage in almost all fields. India is a country with a population of over 1 Billion people with a love for their culture.
A country that celebrates Unity and Diversity and embraces newness and it is the youngest country. These four features encapsulate the ‘Spirit of India’.
The theme will be showcased at UB City from 19-28 August 2016 as a Global exchange of art and culture. Art Bengaluru 2016 will play host to over 30 artists from around the world: India, France, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Peru, China and other countries, in association with the Alliance Francaise, British Council, Consulate of Israel, Instituto Cervantes, Italian Institute of Culture and the Museum of Goa.
The festival will feature performances of Karsh Kale Collective on its opening night (19 August) followed by two other performances of renowned musicians on 20th and 21st August. Workshops targeting all age groups and Speaking events by renowned artists will also be a part of the festival through the 10-days. 23-25 August 2016 will also showcase world cinema from Spain, Italy and the classic “Romeo and Juliet” celebrating the year of Shakespeare.
Other wonderful musicians playing in this cultural festival are Wolf Pack on 20th August and Sivamani-Siraha trio on 28th August who will close the event. Definitely performances which you must not miss if you love your music! In addition to this, there are multiple workshops being organized throughout these 10 days. Some of them are Canon Workshop by Ankit Singh & Suryarshi Mitra, Light Painting Workshop by Marko 93, Tea Appreciation Event by Sublime House of Tea and Absolut India Cocktail making workshop by Yangdup Lama! There are some interesting world films to be seen too like 7 French Billiards, Romeo and Juliet and “It’s gonna take a miracle”! Most of these films have free entry too so you don’t need to worry about loosening your wallet!
